Awwwww I loved your comment, it's also my favorite saga, Dark Souls has a very different perspective to other games on how to treat its player (thanks Miyazaki), Solaire is one of those micro stories so unique to that world, like Siegmeyer too.

I would say that much sadder is to kill him after being that first help of the game as important as Gargoyles, Orstein and Smough are, I prefer to think that he could not achieve his goal of being the chosen undead and become one with the fire, but he helped us in the last battle and after that he looked for other purposes, at least not like in Dark Souls 3 that demolish that lore that had built the community from being the son of Gwyn and God of War banished from his powers, to become a soup of estus.
