After a storm blew through last night around 10:00, our power was out making it difficult to get to sleep. I attempted to make my way outside several times, but winds gusting up to 70 miles per hour stressed many of our trees to their limits. After repeatedly poking my head out the front door and hearing the cracking of tree limbs unable to withstand the punishment mother nature was dishing out to them, I decided to wait until morning to evaluate the damage. The view I had upon first leaving the house is pictured below.
Once I made my way past the mess to the top of the driveway I turned around and snapped another photo of the damage from there.
Looking up at the trees I found the source of the branches. The tops of several trees were missing.
A look at a couple of the trees missing tops....
I then turned back towards the house and found our family home had been spared the devastation that may have been caused from this limb crashing onto the roof.
With some effort I was able to cut most of the branch out of the tree. There is still a chunk hanging on about 3 to 4 feet long, but it is far enough out that it should miss the house if it happens to fall before I can finish the job.
In all the the power was out for about 20 hours. The vehicles were pretty damaged, but still drivable.....Thank goodness for full coverage insurance when you need it! It will take some time to get everything cleaned up, but we made a lot of progress towards getting the job done with the help of my brother and sister in law.
