OmiseGO is a token based on Ethereum built by a company called Omise. This company is focused on managing payments in South-East Asia. Their main goal is to introduce payments via mobile phones and general improvement of payment system.
Right now in countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia and Malaysia there is a massive problem in money transfering. In those countries only ~25% of people have a bank account, but ~65% of people own a smartphone. That creates the situation, that the only way to transfer money is via Western Union(expensive and time-consuming) or to employ someone to take your money and physically carry them all the way to their destination(same situation).
Omise has been working on introducing their payment system already for 4 years and are employing more than 100 people.
Team behind OmiseGO is way above average. 2 outstanding names are Vitalik Buterin (Founder of Ethereum) and Julian Zawistowski (Founder of Golem).
