Corruption is an evil act by individuals or people. Corruption includes activities like bribery and peculation.
Bribery is the exchange of money, materials and other things to get some work done in an illegal manner or fasten things up.
In Nigeria today, corruption and bribery have become something common that everyone turns a blind eye to it. Although everyone oppose this terrible act, but one way or the other, it will be very difficult to see someone who hasn’t indulged in it.
For instance, someone who is seeking for promotion or work in an organization may offer money just to get promoted or get the job even if they are not qualified for the position.
It's so surprising that law enforcement who are supposed to be against corruption and bribery have also embraced it. They sometimes take bribe to get rid of someone’s crime for their own personal interest or out of fear.
Corruption and bribery can be seen everywhere in the school where you see some rich people giving bribery to the school or to some corrupt staff to buy admission for their kids which has made many less privileged candidates to lose out.
Corruption and bribery does not just end among the officials, working organizations or schools but also take place in our homes. For instance, giving our younger ones little tips to shut their mouth because one has done something bad is also an act of bribery, these kids learn same thing and grow up to indulge in such act.
Corruption and bribery has really affected the country in such a way that people who are qualified for some certain job or task have been denied of the opportunity because they can’t afford to buy their way in.
Hence, something is needed to be done to reduce or get rid of this problem in order to help the country and people grow.
Though fighting against bribery is a difficult task to begin with.
The change needs to start within ourselves in order to be able to fight against it. The people should stop indulging in bribery and by doing this, the government or law enforcement will have no reason to engage in it.
Also, children should be taught honesty at their early age and consequences attached to giving or accepting bribery.
The schools, work organizations should also give no room to accepting bribery of any kind from anyone.
Furthermore, there should be strict punishment for anyone who is caught giving out or accepting bribe.
In conclusion, all of us must fight against corruption and bribery
starting from our homes.
