If you don't get disciplined when you err then it only emboldens and reinforces the behavior, either you get disciplined by your family or you get disciplined by institutions, either way you'll have to learn or keep trying, that discipline is the base of life, now if you have that epiphany by yourself without punishment from your elders then great, but to conclude that disciplining a child is simply beating them out of some psychotic need to torment a child than you're fucked in the head.
