With the growth and expansion of population its becoming harder to find dark sky locations. Milky Way photography serves as a way to document the expansion of cities as they grow outwards and increase the amount of light pollution. Some locations that are great dark sky locations might be consumed by light pollution in a few years. Some people in big cities have never seen the Milky Way with their own eyes other than from photos. Its as if we are documenting the extinction of our connection with the universe.
Reminding us how insignificant we are.
When you go to a dark sky location and are able to see the stars and the Milky Way unadulterated by light pollution it reminds us how vast the universe is. Some may be in awe of the vastness while others may feel a bit sad to realize how insignificant Earth is when compared to how much is around us. Connecting with the the cosmos can inspire and it feeds the soul with elements that we miss out on living in a digital age. Virtual reality cant compare to what we can experience when we commune with the universe.
