Who says you need an expensive camera and lens to get started with Milky Way photography. Still new to dark sky photography in 2013 I went out armed with a T3i and a kit 50 mm lens to see what I could do. I knew I would need to try and avoid light pollution and make sure my exposure was long enough to capture the Milky Way. This was good practice since the shots did not turn out the way I had hopped so I kind of forgot about them. I eventually got better with editing and learned how to work some miracles with the help of lightroom. Ideally as you get better, the less you will need to do in light room and other editing programs.
