WATCH AND RESTEEM AND FOLLOW
TEXT: Matthew 7:1-6
1.“Judge not, that you be not judged.
- For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.
- And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?
- Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye?
- Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 6.“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.
Hypocrisy is the behaviour of condemning other people about what they do whereas you are a victim yourself! It is a behaviour that does not agree with what someone claims – pretending to be what you are not. That is hypocrisy. A fornicating preacher may use the pulpit to boldly condemn fornication; his preaching is good but his person is bad - he is a hypocrite. And if he continues in that kind of life, he will no longer see clearly his on wrong because he will always want to protect himself. Jesus condemns that. The instruction is clear: “...first cast out the beam of your own eye; and then shall thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye”- v.5. There are several persons today who cannot see their fault clearly; not because the faults are not there but because they are hypocrites – they suppress their inner rottenness and then blow up other people’s error. This is a subtle disease that grows quietly.
Therefore, you need to expose your weaknesses to God for transformation so that you can see clearly about other people’s shortcomings.
Prayer: Lord, deliver me from every aspect of hypocrisy.
