WATCH RESTEEM AND FOLLOW
TEXT: Galatians 3:26-4:1-7
3:26. For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
3:27. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
3:28. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
3:29. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
4:1. Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all,
4:2. but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father.
4:3. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. 4:4. But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
4:5. to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
4:6. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”
4:7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
In the time of the law, human beings (represented by the Jews) were servants of God. The coming of Christ brought a change of this identity. Real Christians, by the privilege of the gospel, are no longer servants but sons. This depicts a closer intimacy/relationship with God, and provides them a right to all the privileges of His children. Their former identity is gone; they have put on Christ and are now joint heirs with Him. This brings all Christians into the same divine commonwealth. By this, every Christian irrespective of class, race, colour, language, etc, is a brother. This was achieved by adoption.
Do we want to enjoy the same privileges with Jesus? We must be part of this identity change. We have to allow Christ to adopt us so He can have rightful parental oversight over us. Let’s have faith in Christ and maintain a right standing with Him, so we can have a share in His assets.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, we accept you today as our faith; grant us access to your possessions. Amen.
