This week, for the Battlemage Secrets Challenge, we have the “Odd Ones Out” rule. I would usually start posts like this with an introduction about the rule, how it affects us and possible ways to deal with it, however… what is there to say?
Odd Ones Out, only Monsters with odd Mana costs can be summoned; is just a restrictive rule. How much you suffer this rule will depend on the cards you have available to play with, but that has little to do with strategy and more to do with the number of cards players have. Is up to you how much you decide to spend on the game.
The more different cards you got, the less you’ll suffer Even Stevens or Odd Ones Out. There is no room to discuss strategy here.
This battle was done during a Brawl, in which only Gold Foil cards, from the Chaos and Rebellion sets could be used, with a Silver level cap. Since I was the Arena Host, Quora Towershead was banned. Alongside with these fray rules, the specific battle rules were, apart from Odds Ones Out, “Tis but Scratches”, which gives all Monsters the Cripple ability and “Broken Arrows”, which disallows the use of Ranged attacking cards. Plenty of Mana to spare, 47 and only Dragons inactive in the battle.
I opted to use the strength of Magic in this battle, so I went with the Earth Splinter here, so:
The battle was a total success, so three points for my Guild. And it was a total success, because I didn’t suffer any loss, so it was an easy victory. The main reason for my win, in my opinion, was the lack of options both of us had in this battle.
We you have so many restrictions, assembling a competitive team is hard. In this situation, particularly, we had tough Brawl limitations… only Gold Foil, only Modern sets, and we also had two big battle rules which were quite restrictive, Odds Ones Out and Broken Arrows.
I believe I won because my opponent didn’t have enough cards to compete and when that happens, you just put a random card after another… that or he was a bot.
Anyways, this is it for this post, thank you for reading!
