Hello good evening, I’m very happy to be here again after a while of not posting in this community.
Just recently, I came across these images which of course are very detrimental in our cultural practices. Depending on where you are coming from, these are very common in Africa society and Ghana is one African country notably into this carves.
A popular town, Ahwiaa in the Ashanti region of Ghana is one town that produces most of these carvings.
They have a very rich history, as it depicts our true identify as Africans and Ghanaians in general, no wonder these are normally painted in black clearing showing our color.
But many people have issues using them especially most Christians. Because many believe is for the traditional people or believers.
In Ghana we called it #Akuaba (doll) as known by many. It is believed some slave Africa women carried it with them as a form of luck and also remembering them of their native land.
Whiles some have other mindset for his, most people are also patronizing said the guy I met.
I was one of the very few people who had negative connection with it but upon knowing the history attached, I became so interested so I purchased one of these.
I think I have to be a promoter of these folks because it really have a rich history and truly defines us as Africans
