Snowshoeing is a lot of fun, but you can only go at a slow pace, especially when you're not used to it. We did have a running race at some point, and that IS a lot of work because you need to lift your knees high above the snow to get any traction.
Snowshoeing is awesome though, because you can cover deep, snow-covered ground so much more easily than in regular shoes. With regular shoes you'd sink knee-deep into the snow, but with snow-shoes you remain above the snow-line. They also have cleats at the bottom, which means you can walk up steep, snowy slopes without slipping.
Yes, we took the trip at around Xmas. I think the snow will have melted a bit by now, but who knows! I do miss Canada. Alberta is amazing.
