I'm enjoying more and more of this, in spite of the lack of attention I got in my previous posts. There is a beauty to having an instant feedback and earning money or not according to how people react.
I chose this title because I like Eminem. Although I'm somewhat of a hater that criticizes pretty much everything mainstream, I can appreaciate when something that is popular is good. And Eminem falls into that category. Why? Because of the raw feeling he conveys. You identify youself with him.
Here you have a guy whose songs are highly autobiographical and serve as a way of dealing with one's problems, all the while inspiring and deeply touching people everywhere in the world who can relate and value his message.
It's you against society. No one gives you a break. But then something happens... someone, in this case Dr. DRE, gives him a chance. The chance no one else gave him, the one people advised DRE against. And he thrives... spectacularly. He keeps writing and singing today about all his personal struggles, even the ones of his turned-mentor. His lyrics are substantially different from what you can see in most hip hop artists. He took control of the things that people kept throwing at him before he got known, and used them for success. How insane is that? Catharsis at its most palpable level.
Maybe, just maybe, you can learn something from him... hear a couple of his songs and you'll see what I mean.
Or not and you can say he's terrible. And that I am too.
...and that's okay too.
