Hello to you all! I'm Avanthi Uthpala, a newbie in the Hive Platform. I have already done an intro post, and you want to check it please visit @avanthius/hi-would-you-like-to
So let's get on to the topic. Being a Buddhist myself, we celebrate the Vesak festival which commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha. On that day we light beautiful vesak lanterns and we go to the temple to worship Lord Buddha.
Usually in my home we make the lanterns by ourselves cause it is fun. A common vesak lantern that we made in our country is called "Atapattam", so today I'm sharing how to make it with you. A common practices is to make those with using bamboo sticks, but what I usually use is plastic straws. So, let's start.😊
First what I do is cut all the straws in half. I do this because I'm making small lanterns. And if you want a bigger one you can use the whole thing. And we're gonna need 24 pieces for one lantern.
Then we need a candle . Then take two pieces of straws at a time and using the flame we have to melt the edge of the straws and attach them together making a right angle at the junction.
After doing that we get 12 'L' shaped pieces. Then we have to attach those to make squares. After completing it we get 6 squares.
Then we have to attach these 6 squares together at every corner like below. And that's it.
5.After making the lantern, we have to decorate it with colorful tissue papers. Here I use several colors.
This is the final look after finishing all the decorations. And usually I use a tree branch to hang the lanterns because it's more natural and beautiful for me.
And since we are lighting them in the night time I used bulbs to light them cause it's more safer than using a candle which can cause a fire.
And this is it. It is very satisficing for me. The sound of them waving with the wind clams me and I love to watch it as well.
And my brother-in law has brought us some buckets from the market so we lit them with candles to finish up the final look. So this is the final look.
And that's it for today. Thank you all for reading this, and hope you like it. See you in the next post. Bye..!
