Restaurants of Tommorow

What has been taking place in the last 6 months is unprecedented. Because of the pandemic, many business have been shuttered. Specifically, eating establishments have been absolutely hammered. Yet even through it all many fast food places stayed open. Drive thru and Door dash helped feed many hungry Americans.

Yet, what will become of these fast food giants. It’s always been my contention that many would become almost fully automated. The era of min wage worker will become a thing of the past. Kiosks and touch less access will become the norm.

Recently Burger King announced a new concept for their stores. Three drive up lanes will replace the single order lane. A walk up order window will also be available for customers. One lane will be designated for meal delivery drivers.

By far my favorite feature of this new restaurant concept is the kitchen. As patrons wait orders are delivered via conveyor belt from kitchen. The kitchen resides just above waiting customers.

Outdoor eating will also be available. This is crucial as most restaurants have shuttered indoor eating.

Curbside pickup will also be prominent. Patrons can order via the Burger King app and have a full contactless order. Food lockers will automate the pickup process.

Personally I’m not a fan of Burger King(In and Out Fan) However, I love the new concept. I believe business must adapt to the changing landscape. Virus or no virus people have to eat.
