I totally see your viewpoint, but personally, I rarely think it's as simple as giving a fish or teaching someone how to fish. It's not that people are lazy, or stupid, the main problem with the wealth gap is that it's so much more expensive to be poor than to be rich. Cheaper cars break down more often, overdraft fees are huge, credit card fees are huge, if you have poor credit, interest is higher, African-American families couldn't get home loans at all, or if they could, only in areas with crumbling infrastructure, people can't afford to go to the doctor so they wait until the thing becomes a more expensive emergency, etc etc.
This is why I think handouts could be beneficial even if some corporations make more profit, because it's so expensive to be poor, and handouts could make that society more efficient overall, leading to increased productivity and GDP.
People just assume that as soon as someone receives a handout they'd automatically become a sloth and a drain on society, when the data shows (in cases of UBI) that people are instead able to create opportunities for themselves. People are healthier, they're able to look after their kids better (which can reduce crime), more time for education, more time to recover, more time for art.
Remember that while the corporations are making the profits from those receiving the handouts, the taxpayers are also paying that profit. That is funds that could be used for investing for example. And, because the corporations are doing what they do, the governments take more loans, which are again funded by the taxpayer and handed to those who don't have enough.
I'm not sure I understood this paragraph. If corporations were paying their fair share of taxes, I'm not sure Governments would need to take out more loans. Governments should be funded entirely by taxes. I know it doesn't happen enough, but it's entirely possible, if corporations are audited correctly, enforcement happens and loopholes are closed.
