Mount Conero is a promontory in the Marche Region in Italy.
It is a well known touristic attraction, both for the amazing cities on the sea side, like Sirolo, Numana or Portonovo and also for some really beautiful villages in the interlands, like Recanati (Giacomo Leopardi's hometown), Castel Fidardo and Loreto.
Me and my friends one week end decided to go and visit this amazing places by bike. We took a train in Bologna, bringing with us our bikes and all the stuff necessary for the camping.
We arrived at the station of Ancona and from there we went by bike to the Campeggio la Tore, in Portonovo, at around 1 hour distance by bike.
There we had a reservation for the night for our tents.
After a night of beers on the sea side and a little bit of rest, the next day we mounted on our bikes with direction: Recanati, Castel Fidardo and Loreto.
Visiting places by bike, in my opinion, is a really good compromise. You can move faster than by foot but you still have all the time to enjoy the trip.
Of course the longer the distances the more tiring it becomes, but with the right company and environment the fatigue goes in second place.
The distance we covered that day was 50 Km, with a difference in height of almost 800 m. I have to admit that it was not so easy, also because we encountered some rain during the day.
But it was worth it, since the places we visited were stunning. The countryside was full of vivid colors, immense expanses of meadows all of bright colors.
And then the villages, all incredibly pretty.
Starting from Loreto and its amazing Sanctuary of the Holy House, basically a small city inside the city itself.
Recanati, the house of Giacomo Leopardi, with the famous "ermo colle" that the poet cites in one of his most famous poems: "L'infinito".
And last but not least, *Castelfidardo, that is not as famous as the first two, but is stil really pretty.
Then the day after we went on the actual mount Conero, and from the top of it, we descended to the sea 😍. This was the funniest and at the same time hardest part of the trip.
Hardest because we had to climb to the top of mountain and funniest because then we did some downhill mountain biking to descend and it was amazing.
If you have never been to this area of Italy, I strongly recommend to you to do it (especially during spring or autumns when the colors are amazing). Instead if you have visited it, please let me know if you have enjoyed it as much as I did.
