Yeah, there's no way Democrats would take advantage of such a thing. Only a small portion of the taxes would go towards severance pay. The rest would indefinitely go into the pockets of politicians until these trucking companies, with self-driving trucks, would no longer be able to even afford to operate anymore. Especially with how 'liberal' democrats are about continually raising taxes.
