What is money meant for if not for spending? But what kind of spending? Ah, the age-old question. What kind of spending indeed. The type of spending we do is the difference between a happy life and misery. Some are unaware that their spending habits are causing them grief, so they never change, and their circumstances never improve.

Today we will try to analyze these spending habits and see where we can improve in each. By no means am I an expert on this topic, but if anything I reckon we could work together and figure out how to help each other.

Regardless of our wants, there is no cure unless we are seeking one. Nothing in this world happens unless we choose it. So I suggest a more open-minded approach when dealing with topics of self-reflection - which this is.

WHAT IS A SPENDING HABIT?

The way we handle money is unique to every person. Each one of us has a 'money mentality' that is ours. These mentalities are the bedrock behind our habits. They are deeply engraved in us, thus making it hard to notice when we do something because we want to do it, or because we've been programmed to do it.

And when I say programmed I really mean it. Like most of our habits, our spending tendencies come from our upbringing, our parents, our surroundings - all of it. People who develop wealthy spending habits only to then see a turn of fortune in their lives suffer greatly. It's hard to rewire out brains to new situations. Possible, but hard.

PROACTIVE SPENDING

These people have lax tendencies. They tend to go with the wind. They need something = they buy it. More often than not, these folk live in the moment. They live in abundance even if they have less than it is optimal. Some, suffer because their expectations don't line up with their tendencies. Others, understand themselves better and understand that their actions are their preferred actions. And that there's no reason to hate yourself for being yourself.

If you are at peace with your spending, then no advise is needed. You are living your best life. You are not governed by the amount of money in your wallet but by the amount of happiness in your heart. As long as you've come to terms with that, you're good. If you are unaware of it, however, it could cause you pain. Make sure to look deep inside you, and analyze your tendencies honestly. It's always important to be honest with yourself.

RETROACTIVE SPENDING

These are the people that wait for the sales. For the best deal to pop up. Their spending is determined by their ever-vigilant calculations. They never buy for the sake of buying or need. They buy what has the best price - the use will come later. These people are at peace with knowing that they have future-proofed their budget, sleeping soundly at night knowing they are taken care of.

If they don't have money for something, they probably don't need it. If they need something, they probably already have it. This mindset is tough for people eager to spend, that prioritize their pleasure over their prudence. Some, that are well established even, come to hate this mindset, as it is very obtuse, boring, lifeless.

There is no right answer here, nor should you look for one. The main thing is knowing your tendencies and adjusting accordingly.

Do you like spending more? Then you should probably work harder to acquire more money so you are set for your chaotic spending sprees.
Do you like being reserved more? Then you should probably look to enjoy life whenever you can. Embrace your stability and certainty.

If we are at peace with our actions, then our habits will form a happy life for ourselves. We just need to be aware and prudent, so that we do not get trapped by our own selves. Remember, be honest and be proactive. Proactive in your actions towards self-improvement. Proactive towards your actions. If that leads to proactive or retroactive spending - so be it.

Thank you for stopping by. ❤️
