My mother has an old #Singer #industrialsewingmachine, passed down from my grandmother. She doesn’t use it anymore so we plan to sell it to make some space.
Mum used to have one too, but it was in our house when it caught fire many years ago. Mum was a curtain maker. Nan was a curtain maker and upholsterer. Nan died about 4 years ago 2 weeks short of her 110th birthday. She had i think five birthday cards from the queen.
The machine we think is about 50 years old, possibly more, but is in good working condition. The connecting rod between the treddle and motor was worn so has been replaced with a new one.
The video is of me testing the machine, repairing some yoga pants. Mum also repaired a pocket on a hoodie and another pocket on a jacket of mine. She still remembered (at age 87 wirh dementia and a little prompting from me) how to use it.
So, if you’re in the #UK and interested in buying a sewing machine with some history (made probably thousands of pairs of curtains, sold in stores such as #Bonds - now #JohnLewis, #WallisKings, #Debenhams and more) ideally if you’re near #Norfolk or #Suffolk, as i expect it will be quite costly to transport, comment below.
There are LOTS of bibs and bobs to go with it including cotton and curtain material. Buyer to collect.
Prices on ebay range from £200 to over £1,000 (without all the extra stuff) which i can send pictures of on request, so we are inviting offers of around £500
