A lot of debate is happening in this issue. Will it be a good idea to bring petrol and diesel prices under GST? Most of the people say YES because they want the fuel prices to come down. They want to fill petrol in their bikes at cheaper rate.
But we need to look into this issue in a broader perspective. Where does our money go when we pay higher prices? Most of the people say "into the pockets of oil companies". This answer comes also because of the fact that the multinational oil companies have been given the privilege of fixing the oil prices.
But we need to understand also that a small percentage of the oil prices is only given as refining charges. The large chunk of the price is taken as tax by central and state governments, which in turn is being used for the development purpose of the nation.
