Ahoy! Last year we saw the first Pokémon GO Tour, featuring Kanto. This event featured all the Pokémon from the Kanto region, and those that didn't have a Shiny yet had their Shiny debut in this event. This year the GO Tour is taking place again, featuring the Johto region this time. All of the Pokémon from Johto that didn't have their Shiny released yet will have them debut tomorrow.
This week I haven't been that active. I spent some more time in bed after a fall with my bike last weekend when there was still some surprise heavy wind from the massive storm the day before. I'm all good now, almost no aches left. It was already better yesterday and then much better today, I went for a good walk earlier. So tomorrow should be good to go luckily!
The event will take place this February 26th from 9 am through 9 pm local time.
If you purchased a ticket for the event, you can already choose between the Gold and Silver versions now. For that you have to go into your items list and scroll until you see the dark blue ticket, click on it and when you scroll down in the info you can choose. After clicking on one, you have to confirm your choice. Once that's done the buttons will be replaced by an "add to calendar" button.
When you've chosen your version, you will receive a medal featuring Ho-Oh if you chose the Gold version or Lugia if you chose the Silver version.
Back in my childhood when the games were out, I had the Gold version of the game. So I was mostly leaning towards the Gold version for the ticket as well.
There will be version exclusives with this ticket for some Pokémon that will only appear on Incense. So you have to trade to get a few of them. One of my friends told me he already picked the Silver version so I know for sure I can trade with at least one of them to get the version exclusives.
I'll probably start playing a bit from home at the beginning before I go outside to meet up with some friends and walk around.
Event Details
There is A LOT with the event. Many bonuses for ticket holders, and some stuff for non-ticket holders as well.
There is a Special Research that will lead to an encounter with Shiny Gyarados, as there is always a guaranteed one in those games. And an encounter with Celebi. This will be the 3rd Celebi we can obtain, so I do wonder if we'll get a 3rd Mew encounter sometime too. If you complete the Special Research during the event, Celebi will know the Fast Attack Magical Leaf.
Completing the Special Research will unlock a Masterwork Special Research that'll take long to complete and lead to encounters with Apex Shadow Lugia and Apex Shadow Ho-Oh. These will know a + version of their special move. Purifying them will upgrade the move to a ++ version, but once I have them I'll keep them Shadow most likely, because the 20% Shadow damage boost probably outweighs the increased damage from the move. This is everyone's personal choice.
10 Collection Challenges during the event:
- As the event will feature 5 different hourly habitats that will all occur twice, those 5 habitats will all have their own collection challenge.
- Probably 2 version exclusive ones, where you have to catch all the version exclusives attracted to Incense, and another where you obtain the other version's exclusives from trading.
- Another one for hatching the Baby Pokémon introduced in the 2nd generation that can only be obtained from Eggs. 1/4th Hatch Distance will help with finding them in 2 km Eggs.
- One should be for evolving all Pokémon. All Kantonian Pokémon that gained evolutions in this generation will spawn so you can evolve them.
- Last one will be for obtaining from Raids. As Heracross and Corsola are Raids-only, normally regional but their Raids will appear globally. Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Ho-Oh and Lugia are also Raids only. You can get up to 9 free Raid Passes from Gyms throughout the event if you bought the ticket.
Hopefully that sums up some of the important things. For a full overview of everything make sure to check Niantic's blog post here: https://pokemongolive.com/en/post/pokemongotour-knowbeforeyougo/
And for an overview of all the version exclusives, the Pokémon you have a higher chance to encounter Shiny and to also find more info about Apex Shadow Lugia and Apex Shadow Ho-Oh, make sure to check out: https://pokemongolive.com/post/apex-reveal/#recap
Shiny Pokémon appearing for the first time in Pokémon GO include Girafarig, Corsola, Remoraid, Mantine (only in Gold Version), Phanpy (only in Silver Version), and Tyrogue. This includes the featured Unown (G, J, O, R, T, and U), which will be attracted to Incense.
Make sure you prepare some food to eat and water (or other beverages) to stay hydrated if you're going to be walking around for a long time during the event. Good luck, and don't forget to take a Snapshot to encounter Smeargle!
