While waiting and wondering what to do in Siem Reap after arriving from our Kuala Lumpur transit, I added a destination to look like a local. We walked quite a distance and logged 10,000 steps, as it would have been a shame to just stay in the hotel.
I found it excite to explore the temples in this area. As Indonesians, who are predominantly Muslim, pagoda, wat and temple are extremely rare. So, it was time for an unprecedented exploration. Traveling with a completely different perspective was truly a complete change.
We noticed a temple that resembled one in Thailand, Wat Bo. According to my information, this is the oldest temple in the current era (long after Angkor Wat/Angkor Thom). Wat Bo is unique because its design is very similar to the one in Thailand. However, there is no actual connection; it is still a Khmer-style temple.
Wat Bo is a comfortable, beautiful, and very quiet place, even though there are many people. Respect for the monks is a must, and one should maintain politeness in both demeanor and attire. I found it very warm. I can't explain it in detail, but the air here felt very cool, even though I felt a little warm before entering the temple, obviously because it was summer in Siem Reap.
I walk around the area, noticing the stupas lined up close together, all varying in color and shape! I spotted a Buddha statue sitting cross leg, clap hands, praying on a red stone slab. Right next to Wat Bo largest building the main hall.
Wat Bo is not just a temple, but also a school for monks. Many teenagers were training and studying here to become monks. They were even sitting and studying, so I didn't want to disturb them. However, I later found the chairs empty after they finish. They seemed to be taking a short break and returning to their seats.
I think this place could be a good destination if you want to kill some time waiting. Afterward, I went in search of Siem Reap's signature dishes. They say there's delicious food here that's a must try.
