Being on the island of Margarita, I went to visit the Macanao Peninsula, towards the western part of the island, which has a very particular and much more traditional beauty, in contrast to the developed and busy tourist infrastructure that Porlamar has, the commercial heart of this Caribbean island.
There is also a small geographical gap between those two worlds that make up the island.
Just before reaching the town of Boca del Río, there is the bridge over the main channel of the Laguna de la Restinga National Park, an important natural water reservoir, full of mangroves and rich in biodiversity.
This is the narrowest part that makes up the neck of the Macanao peninsula. Although I was not able to enter and tour the lagoon because I was on a work trip, I know that it is possible to take a tour by renting a boat to walk through its mangroves.
We made a brief stop right at the bridge and I managed to take those photos and I was left with an immense desire to return and enter those mangroves and enjoy their fresh seafood, without a doubt, the gastronomy in Margarita is one of its best things.
Estando en la isla de Margarita, fui a visitar la Península de Macanao, hacia la parte oeste de la isla, que tienen una belleza muy particular y mucho más tradicional, en contraste con la desarrollada y concurrida infraestructura turística que tiene Porlamar, corazón comercial de esta isla caribeña.
Hay también una pequeña brecha geográfica entre esos dos mundos que componen que conviven en la isla.
Justo antes de llegar al pueblo de Boca del Río se encuentra el puente sobre el canal principal del Parque Nacional Laguna de la Restinga, un importante reservorio de agua natural, lleno de manglares y rico en biodiversidad.
Esta es la parte más estrecha que compone el cuello de la península de Macanao. Aunque no pude adentrarme y recorrer la laguna porque me encontraba en un viaje laboral, sé que es posible hacer un recorrido alquilando un bote para pasearse por sus manglares.
Hicimos una breve parada justo en el puente y logré hacer esas fotos y quedé con unas ganas inmensas de volver y adentrarse por esos manglares y disfrutar de sus frescos frutos marinos, sin duda alguna, la gastronomía en Margarita es una de sus mejores cosas.
