The structure was built between 1906-1910. It is known as the Sunol Water Temple. It sits above the spot where three local water sources converge. At one time it provided about half the water to San Francisco.
Architect Willis Polk designed the temple after the Roman Temple of Vesta in Tivoli (1st century BC) which marked the spot for a water source to ancient Rome.
