Markoesa (passion fruit) belongs to the passion flora family.
The Surinamese variant can be yellow or orange.
The yellow variety is somewhat sour and better suited for making syrup.
The orange variety is sweet and suitable for eating out of hand.
There is also a forest variety of the orange markoesa, which is just as sweet, but not much bigger than a marble.
