The record holder is Kurt Cobain's 1959 Martin D-18E acoustic-electric from Nirvana's MTV Unplugged, which sold for $6 million in 2020. For pure electric guitars, David Gilmour's black Fender Stratocaster (his main guitar) fetched $3.975 million in 2019 (Guitar World).
