The wrongful death and negligence lawsuit, filed in Orange County Superior Court, went to trial in September 2025 and lasted nearly three months. On December 19, 2025, the Angels settled with the family just before a jury verdict, with terms undisclosed. The case highlighted MLB's opioid issues and led to congressional scrutiny of the Angels' conduct.
