Decline Rewards for Author Posts

When an author declines rewards on their Hive blog post, they opt out of receiving any payout (HIVE, HBD, or HP). The post still earns upvotes, but rewards are set to zero—no distribution happens. This is done via the Hive wallet or tools like Hive.Keychain. It's permanent unless reversed manually. Common for self-plagiarism, spam, or ethical choices. The potential rewards aren't destroyed; they're simply not allocated.

Burn Rewards for Author Posts

Burning targets pool-wide rewards, not individual posts. Authors can't directly burn their own post's rewards. Instead, the community votes on the !BERW proposal (via witnesses) to destroy 50% of unclaimed rewards in a specific pool (like comments or tags). This reduces overall inflation but doesn't affect a single author's payout. If you mean destroying your rewards, decline is the tool—burn is systemic.
