Decline Rewards on Hive

Declining rewards means eligibility for post payouts (HIVE, HBD, HP) is set to zero, so no rewards are distributed. It's permanent for that post/account unless manually adjusted back. Useful for spam, errors, or moral reasons. The rewards aren't destroyed; the system just skips payout calculation for that content.

Burn Rewards on Hive

Burning rewards uses the !BERW (Burn Existing Reward Witnesses) proposal to destroy 50% of all unclaimed rewards in a pool (e.g., for a post or block). The other 50% goes to witnesses who vote for the burn. It reduces overall token supply by sending burned HIVE/HBD to the null address. Primarily for curators missing payout deadlines.

Key Differences

• Scope & Permanence: Decline is per-post/account and toggleable; burn is a one-time pool destruction via community vote.
• Effect on Supply: Decline skips rewards without removing tokens from circulation; burn actively destroys half the pool's value.
• Use Cases: Decline for personal/post control; burn for supply deflation and witness incentives.
