We wanted to go for a circa-1993 MTV2-style psychedelic look complete with a naff green-screen and fuzzy VHS aesthetics. (of which were are from running the video through my actual VHS tape!)
It was a very quick shoot over this Summer - I think we had literally 4 hours in the studio to shoot EVERYTHING, get in and out. Including the cats. I'm amazed we did it all.
But with some careful timings and handling of the cats we achieved something fairly unique.
I had quite a specific vision for the video, in terms of the green-screen and what I thought would work.
It actually turned out better than I had in my head. Which almost never happens.
The band provided the idea of the cats, and literally provided the cats via Rescue Kitties Manchester - a charity aiming to re-home and shelter abandoned kittens. The charity were wonderful and helped during the shoot to get the best from the kittens.
The I went back and piece it together in the edit.
My favourite bit is at 1:16 with Jim slowly turning around.
The song is about how dull and limiting it is to be domesticated.
It was recorded with Simon 'Ding' Archer (Pixies/The Fall/PJ Harvey) in Salford and mixed by Andrew Pimblott.
