Consider this.
I grew up in the South of Spain and went to a private international school that was in the top 2% of education in the world where the kids of criminals, big players on the worldwide market and distant royalty attended.
It was outrageous to say the least.
The things that happened were preposterous really.
And it was the first thing that popped into my mind when I read calumam@calumam's post on POB Word of The Week: Outrageous #009.

Let me clarify.
I definitely was not one of those kids.
Yes, I attended the school because I was lucky enough that my father could afford it but in no way would I call us rich.
And by us, I mean my mother and I. For by that time my parents had split up and Mum and I were living in Spain while my father was in The Netherlands.
My mum is one of the hardest working people I have ever met and she always worked multiple jobs when I was younger so that we would never go hungry, had enough clothes and just had a good life.
It wasn't rich but it was great!

I could write a whole post about the outrageous decadency of the school but let's save that for another time.

I want to tell you about the children.
The children that got everything they wanted and more.

It was incredibly normal for youngsters that were 5/6/7 to start a new sport such as golf and/or riding horse.
Of course these kids got their own horse straight from the bat. And the horse would be super well looked after, getting all the best care and of course, have the horse whisperer come by every now and then to check in and make sure all was okay. Of course earning a ginormous amount of money by simply spending some time with a horse.

They always wore the most expensive clothes you can imagine. I was so used to kids wearing Gucci loafers, having Louis Vuitton handbags, Burberry scarves and all the other high end fashion labels.

There were girls walking around with real diamonds in their ears that cost around 10,000 euros.

As soon as they start getting a little older, the kids would be given insane presents such the latest gadgets and phones.
Parents would fly over to the UK and get their son or daughter the newest Iphone just because why not?

We all started going out at the age of twelve. That's normal in Spain.
And these kids would have upwards of 200 euros on them just to have a night out in the port. INSANE.
Splashing out on luxurious champagne as if they were the CEO of some massive company. Truly when I think about it, it was ridiculous.

And then come the drugs.

It was completely normal for a fourteen year old to smoke weed regularly and to experiment with coke, xtc and speed. These experiments often turned into full-blown addictions which ended up them spending time in an addiction clinic.
It was very normal to have kids of 14 spend upwards of 500/1000 euros a week (!!!) on their drug of choice.

With turning 14, also came the scooters and the microcars. A microcar is a tiny car that you are allowed to drive with a scooter license. New they cost upwards of 3000 euros. And there were several kids that had them.

I have failed to mention the holidays. Of course these kids only went on holiday to the most luxurious places. Barbados, Mauritius, Monaco and Ibiza to name a few. I even remember a boy going to Richard Branson's island because his father was friends with him.

It was an outrageous place and the decadence was way too much for my liking but I am glad I got to experience it.

Over and out,

Ashley
