I've been pondering on the word of the week 'Bizarre'.
What a word. A wonderful one at that.
If you ask me what I find most bizarre, the answer is being alive.
And I know that might sound strange but let me explain why I think that is.
Photo of me last year. I found the sunset to be bizarrely beautiful so I thought it would be appropriate for this post
If you really think about it, one of the reasons you are alive today was made by all the ancestors that came before you. Hundreds of people that decided to have children and somehow managed to stay alive long enough to carry on their genes, their bloodline.
Of course with all of our modern technology in medicine, the staying alive part has become A LOT easier but still, it is quite a miracle.
The chances of me being born was pretty low but due to all these bizarre consequences, I am here now.
What if my red-haired pale grandmother hadn't met my african black as night with tribal marks on his face granddad on the corner by the pub that one evening decades ago?
What if my adventurous mum had chosen to stay in the UK and not move to The Netherlands?
What if my mum hadn't walked into my father's eccentric LP shop because she liked another shop more?
In any split second of a moment, life could have turned out so incredibly different for me.
It is highly possible that I wouldn't even exist.
And that is why I find being alive so bizarre.
Because it is the little moments in life that can truly change us and our futures in ways that we can't even comprehend at the time.
It puts it all into perspective for me and it makes me humbled and grateful to be alive. It really does.
Being alive is a bizarre miracle and I choose to embrace it fully and to enjoy every moment of it.
Through the lowest lows and the highest highs.
Letting life crack me open.
In all my aliveness,
Ashley
