BAR HEADED GEESE
Many different species of birds migrates to North India every year during winters. One of these gorgeous Migrant Birds is Bar Headed Goose (Anser indicus). They've been named Bar Headed because of the two bars clearly visible on its head.
Native to Central Asia, Bar Headed Geese are the Highest and longest flying birds in the world. They can fly upto the heights of 8000 meters (26000 feet) above sea level and can cover more than 1300kms with ease. This is only possible because Bar Headed Geese can breath deeply and less frequently than low altitude birds.
In 1953, a mountain climber reported seeing a bar-headed goose soar over the peak of Mount Everest (29000ft.) which was later confirmed by the group of scientists that these birds have the capability to fly at such great heights.
