Solar Eclipse in India: My View
Donation of any sort is a noble gesture and we don't need to have any specific day to donate anything to the needful. But in India there is a belief that donating something to someone less fortunate during a Solar Eclipse is a good deed and some also believe that doing so will bring good luck. Though there are many other associated beliefs or superstitions but at least some people have a reason to help someone in need.
I was born and bought up in a not so typical hindu family but we are religious too. Principals, beliefs and rituals remains the same but were not imposed on us. We were encouraged to help others during eclipse too as i have seem my mother always prepare packets of Dal (pulses), atta (wheat flour) and some money for the helpers in our apartment complex. She did that again on 21st June (Day of Eclipse) but for eclipse was not the only reason, because she does that quite often. My whole point is that we don't need Days or Dates to feed someone hungry.
Now there is one other aspect of eclipse where few believe that is a bad omen to look at the eclipse or don't eat anything during the eclipse etc. etc. and i completely respect their beliefs and practices.
Thankfully my family has never been of such beliefs and that is the reason i was able to capture the most beautiful phenomenon of Solar Eclipse on 21st June 2020.
That day i noticed that there were no kids in the community park, where i was trying to capture the eclipse, which made me sad because even though it can be harmful to look at the eclipse directly but we can use different DIY methods to look at this amazing phenomenon of nature. I remember when i was young, our national TV channel DD1 shared few methods so that we can witness the eclipse at home. Today we have internet to search things.
This time i was sad that i (a 31 year old man) was more excited than kids for the eclipse.
In our apartment complex there were less or no people on roads or park during eclipse, maybe that is because of COVID19, but usually there is more hustle and bustle during that time there. What made me happy was that few people who got curious and approached me to see the eclipse on my camera screen. Among those was an old lady who got so happy after looking the moon blocking sun in the middle of the day that she told the vendors of the nearby shops and that made my day.
I have no intention to hurt anyone's sentiments or religious belief, i have just shared what i have observed during this eclipse and compared it with my childhood memories of solar eclipse. Also, I am not an expert at astro photography but all these images were clicked by me. i have used the methods available online to capture this with my basic DSLR and took help from my close friends like @sidjay.
