In a short span of time, I already made a great number of posts for my most favorite unit, Abyssal Elemental. I used him in many battles before and I knew he was good. Before, I did not fully understand his true value. I thought he was strong but not special enough to build around every time.
That changed I tried Abyssal Elemental for the first time which was before this one. Unfortunately, I cannot find that battle so I will show this one instead. This battle made also had an impact to me and made everything clear for me. This battle once again completely changed how I looked at Abyssal Elemental. From that moment on, he stopped being just another option and became my favorite unit to play.
Abyssal Elemental fits very well in a Water lineup because Water has many strong magic damage units. Magic damage is reliable and ignores armor which makes it very strong in many modifiers. Abyssal Elemental adds to this plan by bringing flexibility. Just like water, he can be whatever you want him to be and whatever you need him to be in that battle.
Marlai Singariel makes this combo even better. Her +1 magic damage boost applies to Abyssal Elemental as well and turns him into a real threat. With higher magic damage, his attacks feel more impactful while still being a tanky option.
Water also has strong tanks and supports that protect Abyssal Elemental. Units like Commander Slade can hold the front line while Anasth Soothsayer provides Tank Heal and Cleanse. This lets Abyssal Elemental stay alive longer and fully use Resurgence when needed.
This battle taught me more about abilities and that some of them have extra secret effects. Resurgence was already strong reviving your units at full health and full armor but seeing it remove poison as well means it has more potential. That extra effect means there are more combos I have yet to try with him and other units that can revive itself and others.
Modifiers can both be good or bad but the lesson I learned is that you don't always need to play for it to win. In the battle I will show you, the enemy has the overwhelming advantage as they can both Cleanse and Heal. I didn't have them but I would still be on top when the time comes.
Lastly, always check the stats. There was one wrong I had in this battle and that is not getting a level 2 Abyssal Elemental. At level 2, he already gets +1 magic making it 2 magic damage instead of 1. With Marlai Singariel, that puts the damage at 3 which is a very strong unit and can make you deal with monsters more effectively.

Early:
At the start, it looks like I was on a disadvantage and yes, I actually were. Not only the enemy has Cleanse to remove Poison from the tank, he also have Cleanse Rearguard that removes Poison from the backline. I don't have any of that and my only chance of winning is to kill them fast. I don't see that happening when the enemy has Tank Heal to restore the main tank's health each round.
Mid:
I killed the enemy Taunt unit but my main tank falls before theirs. Even on the mid-game, my team is still on a very disadvantageous position. The enemy team kept healing and removing poison when I can't. They also have a higher leveled Abyssal Elemental on their side so I would surely lose in this battle if it drags on.
Final:
For some reason, the battle leveled towards the end. While I looked like losing in this image, my Abyssal Elemental still has his Resurgence. He gets back to life and with 2 units against 1, I finally had the advantage and in line to win. When Abyssal Elemental comes back to life, the Poison gets removed as well so that's another advantage for me.
Looking back, this battle was another turning point in how I play Splinterlands. While it wasn't the first since that was lost in time, this battle still taught me many things. Abyssal Elemental showed me once again and reminded me how one well-designed unit can change the flow of a match.
Since then, I play with more thought and less rush. I pay closer attention to modifiers and how abilities interact with them. With Abyssal Elemental with me, I am now more confident on each of my battles as I know I have a trusty unit that always have my back.
