I'm totally onboard with the idea if you want to start a common unified storage project and coordinate all the different actors.

But one thing I want to mention is that even if storage is a recurring cost it is far from being the biggest one.
The cost of the storage is very (VERY) small compared to the cost of a team spending hours every day working on the project and supporting the community.
