This update includes some work on how PeakD picks up new releases, along with a simpler Settings page, higher-quality image uploads for Horizon, and separate tag filters for Snaps. There are a few fixes for using PeakD on your phone too.
A smoother refresh when PeakD updates
If you keep PeakD open in a tab or use it as an installed app, getting the latest release should be straightforward.
I've improved how PeakD detects and offers new updates, making the refresh process more consistent and giving you clearer information about the available release in the New Version Available notice.
The familiar Reload Now and Dismiss choices are still there, so you can choose when to switch to the update.
Settings, with less scrolling and automatic saving
The Settings page had become quite a long scroll, especially on a phone. It now has five tabs: General, Votes and Rewards, Look and Feel, Content, and Account. Open the section you need and the rest stays out of the way. On mobile, the tabs use a compact row of icons.
Your preferences also save automatically when you change them. There is a small Saving / Saved indicator in the section header, so you can see when a change has been saved without looking for a button at the bottom of the page.
The account features that update your Hive metadata, such as enabling your portfolio or shop, still have their own action buttons and use your wallet as before.
You can have a look at the new layout in Settings.
Higher-quality image uploads for Horizon
The last image upload update focused on making uploads more reliable and giving you a better view of your daily allowance. This adds a choice for people who want to keep a little more detail in their photos.
With an active Horizon subscription, you can turn on Higher quality image uploads under Settings → General. It is off by default.
When enabled, PeakD preserves more detail in your images, with less compression and more room for larger photos. This also applies to HEIC and HEIF photos uploaded from your phone.
This is useful for photography, artwork, or other images where the smaller details matter. The trade-off is larger files, potentially longer uploads, and more of your daily upload allowance used.
Horizon users can also start with larger source photos, reducing the need to shrink them manually before adding them to a post.
There is a direct link to the quality setting in the editor's Recent uploads panel for Horizon users on larger screens. On smaller phones, you can reach it through Settings → General.
A clearer preview while images upload
While an image is being processed and uploaded, the post preview now shows a gently pulsing placeholder instead of a broken-image warning. As processing progresses, it can show a blurred preview with the image's proportions, before the uploaded image takes its place.
This makes it easier to see where your images will go while you keep writing, especially when uploading several photos or using a slower connection.
Separate tag filters for Snaps
You might want to read long posts about a topic without seeing it in your Snaps stream, or the other way around. Snaps now has its own excluded-tag list, separate from the one used for posts.
Open Settings / Content to configure it. Changing your Snap exclusions leaves your post exclusions alone, and your existing post filters no longer determine which tags are hidden in Snaps.
The same wildcard patterns work here too:
tagmatches that exact tag.tag-*matches tags starting withtag-.*-tagmatches tags ending with-tag.
Pasting tags into either exclusion list is a little more forgiving too: uppercase letters are converted to lowercase, stray characters are removed, and duplicates are filtered out.
A few smaller fixes
- Fixed a positioning issue with the PeakLock unlock modal.
- PeakLock PIN entry has been adjusted to prevent automatic zooming on iOS and avoid scrolling the page as focus moves between digits.
- The slideout menu fits the changing height of the mobile browser better, with scrolling kept within the menu rather than spilling onto the page behind it.
Let me know how the new Settings page feels, especially on mobile. If you keep PeakD open for long stretches or use the installed app, I'd also like to hear how the next update goes. Comments here or on Discord are always welcome.
