Logs Burning Brightly

It took me 10 years to persuade my partner to make a fireplace for a real fire in our lounge. He had too many unhappy childhood memories of having to cart coal upstairs and clear out the grate.

My persistence eventually won out and now he loves our real fire as much as I do.

We're in a smoke free zone so we're not allowed to burn coal which is great because that means no smuts. Instead we burn wood salvaged from trees cut down along the railway lines and the picture below is the result.

Sadly, it's not very often cold enough to actually light a fire but when we do it looks like this:
