The guy who runs the plots down there has dug a trench to get the water to flow back down to the river, I would have thought that the sun would have dried it up some too but it is still so wet.
At the moment I don't have a plan in place for it, I keep pondering over what to do, there are a few solutions that I have read that could work but I don't know as this is the first plot I have ever had.
The first idea is to dig down 4 feet, install a pump and pump the water back to the river as it soaks in, this to me sounds expensive so I am still scratching my head over this one.
The next idea is to have raised beds like your doing, the problem with that is filling the raised beds, as I don't have loads of compost and soil to fill them up.
and the other idea is to mulch everything and grow water-hungry veg there, such as peas and beans, this was suggested to me by an old guy in the garden center. I thought that this idea is probably the one I am going to go ahead with.
He explained to me about the peas and beans that they would add drainage to the ground too, as the roots would make channels for the water to go down. and one thing I have learned is that the elders seem to know what they are talking about. :D
Maybe one of these ideas could help you, I don't know. because of it being grassed like it is it might be harder to do.
