Today, I am writing about my new found respect for mechanics and why.
I have had a massive problem with my car to the point were I have been told that it would cost me more than £950, I thought that this was a massive price to pay as I only paid £500 for the car in the first place.
I decided to come home with my car and see if I could fix it myself, I am a little bit of a DIY kind of man anyways so I set to work to see if I could replace the items on my car just like a mechanic would do.
I ran into noend of problems, wrong size spanners and bits, rust that made some parts of the car like one, then the price of the spare parts, it has got to a point where I have given up on fixing it and I am now recycling the parts to make money for a working one.
I had help from a neighbour who came out with some better tools for the job but it took both me and him 3 hours to remove the towbar as it was seized on, it took a drill to drill through the nut to free it and it finally came away.
I now know why garages cost so much to repair you cars, it isn't the fact their qualified to do so, it's the hard work that goes into it.
Up to now the car is in bits, I have parts in my yard waiting to be sold to make back some money on the car that I bought.
Now I haven't had the car that long, only since November last year, I was fooled by a con artist who made me believe in parting with my money, from day one I have had nothing but problems with it.
When I went to buy the car, the guy told me that it was his dad from new and he had every receipt and every mot certificate and he new that it would pass the MOT with flying colours.
It wasn't long before i couldn't put it in gear, I thought the clutch had gone, to find that it was the gear selector and some one had done a temporary fix to it by holding it on with a tie wrap, this cost me £80 to put right with parts and labour.
then when it got to december the car would not start I had to bump it, when I got to the local motor world they hooked it up and it turned out to be a flat wrong size battery that should never have been put on the car in the first place.
I thought what else could go wrong with this car? It dropped into limp mode, it had flashing head lights the break lights came on and off when they wanted the boot wouldn't open and some dozzy man drove into the side of me and made it so my mirror would on its own close and open too wide.
When I took it to the garage, they laughed at it, and said before they even looked at it the turbo was on its way out from the noise it was making and that would cost enough on its own.
So, I am now looking for a van and not a car, something that will get me about and so i can work as well with it, I am looking forward to seeing what the future hold for me.
I just hope it isn't another bag of spanners :D
