AI has been spurred onward by deep learning over the past few years (AI is much more than just deep learning) which has led to new achievements in natural language processing (NLP), image recognition, and prediction methods. Despite all of this, NYU professor Gary Marcus claims that AI is "stuck." It's not, in his view, really making progress or developing as it should. His argument has some merit, but it really depends on what one means by "AI" and "progress."
