Born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1993, MJ graduated from Tshwane University of Technology in 1996.
His talents extend beyond painting and include sculpture and film, with one of his films "Pa/Father" being screened at the Commonwealth Film Festival in 2006 www.prefab.co.za.
However MJ is best known for his incredible paintings of the gritty industrial bones of a city up against beautiful South African sunsets.
My Thoughts
I guess one starts to wonder if a beautiful sunset can bathe any scene and make it beautiful..or is the sunset obscuring the truth. I like to wonder if in the obscured landscapes are other hidden treasures worthy of investigation.
In these paintings people are not visible, but our creations are and in the shadows of the sunset are the people that live and work within those landscapes, the unseen creators.
