KATLEGO MODIRI CONCEPTUAL SUMMARY
The figures and colors use suggest strength and security and sometimes the opposite.
A point of confidence in one own inner Being unshakable to his or hers core. I print or draw powerful and expressive figures. My art portrays energy and vitality among other themes. My art is artwork of immediacy. That displays a balance of precise control and gestural abandons. Devoid of ornamentation, it is instead simply and spontaneous; minimal, yet compelling. It is a piece of primal yet divine nature of humankind, the potent and strange force of humanity.

Further Understanding:
My artwork is about identity and discovering a true sense of ‘Who am I’? We all identify with emotions as human beings that have moulded us through experiences, norms, conformities, rules, social groups etc and they have all played a hand at building and shaping our identity. These are the unwritten rules of behavior and human nature.

Strip away what’s shaped our identities and who would we be, what RAW state of emotion would this present? Would we be the same, think the same, act the same?

My artwork attempts to ask us all to think about this as individuals. What in life affects us and who are we really? It’s about the questions we ask about ourselves and our social stance in society. Questioning our identity as well how we view ourselves.

The artworks is meant to leave you questioning more about yourself but uses a men, as a subject who may look downwards in life yet is able to reflect confidently inwards.
This is meant to talk to ‘that feeling you get’ and distinctly demonstrates the contradictions emotions often represent in life.
The minimalistic artwork style means that the focus can be on the subject matter.
The subject matter being about identity in this regard.
