Julian Assange is the founder of WikiLeaks (2006).
Julian is an Australian editor, computer programmer and activist . He earned the Time magazine "Person of the Year" title in 2010. WikiLeaks came to international attention in 2010 when it published a series of documents provided by U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning.
In 2016 WikiLeaks published thousands of emails from presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee. After his asylum was rescinded in April 2019, Assange was indicted in the U.S. for violating the Espionage Act.
Assange is being held in a London prison as British courts consider a request from US prosecutors for his extradition to the United States.
The prison is Belmarsh supermax prison, which is regarded as the UK’s version of the US facility Guantanamo.
His extradition case has been delayed until September and will be moved to another court by a British judge.
