When I had money, there were many things I needed. For instance, my Meisen antique collection. My Tsar family fob watches and, my seven thousand books (all read, not for show).

Now?

Partly out of age, but also my attention having turned in other directions, mainly thanks to my writing my book, I do not lack in any physical sense as a friend provides me with a home, an internet connection and my pension is enough for food and a bottle of wine now and then.

It is strange, but I never find myself staring at a shop window wishing I could have this or that. If it is beautiful, then it is enough for me to just appreciate the beauty and be grateful I saw it.

The only times I resent not having money is when someone I love is in need - especially if it is a health problem.

I admit that neither extreme of wealth is good for us.
