Funny how life can be - even in fiction.

While he tries to protect her from himself, he is destroying her, and leaching his own heart of all colours.

He caves (which is supposed to be terribly selfish of him), and they are both happy.

At least for the short term.

As for the grandfather -

He’d steal the pennies off a dead man’s eyes

Maybe we should all have ancestors like him, so that life is that bit easier for us? Not that it would help someone like me, I would still end up with nothing.
