Sorry, but I found the twist in the tale, funny. Funny because it is so true to life - and how my life treats me more often than not (at least he is not blaming himself for not foreseeing the tanker spill - because I think most of us tend to get a bit irrational at such moments.

As for the mention of Joyce, I have tried to read him a number of times - and given up each time. Obviously, if you understood him, you are better educated than I am (that's my excuse for not managing to read him...what is yours for managing?).
