I sometimes get the feeling (basically, when I am writing) that inside, past where I can sense myself, I splinter into thousands of characters. Some I would not like and some I would laugh at for having such naive viewpoints of a world I 'know' is not so nice.
I can never know them or control them, for they do not try, in an individual sense, to control me. However, when I wish to write, I try to sense those I could like or admire, and give them the right to influence my writing. Maybe that is what happens...and maybe it explains why even when I try to create an evil character for the story, I fail. Somehow my good characters dig a bit deeper and find the way to access the hidden goodness in them.
When I read a story by a good story-writer, I find myself trying to see behind the stage presented, to sense what drove the author. Surprisingly, it, at times makes my read more rewarding.
