Sibolga is a sub-district in Tapanuli Tengah District, North Sumatra, Indonesia.
Sibolga Batak tribe is a tribe that is found in most of Central Tapanuli regency, especially the mountainous area and a small part of North Tapanuli regency precisely in Adiankoting District. This tribe actually originated from the interaction between the Batak Toba, Silindung and Humbang with coastal areas of Tapanuli to exchange their agricultural products with sea products Batak Pasisi community. As time passes, these tribes migrate closer to the shore to facilitate the exchange of their crops with seafood.
As a result of regular interaction with the Batak Pasisi community that has been affected for centuries of customs and Malay Coastal and Minangkabau Malay, so that the Batak community Sibolga inipun little affected by customs and Batak Pasisi language. Pasak Batak community absorbed the religion of Islam in its culture and formed a new culture. However, the Batak Sibolga community remains in the Batak Toba / Silindung customs although there is little influence of Batak Pasisi language. In the end the majority of Batak Sibolga tribe more embraced Christianity.

Another difference is found in the word "Lae" / brother-in-law used in Silindung, Toba, Samosir, and Sibolga dialects, whereas in the Humbang dialect Lae means sister father. The word "Puang" calls the second person to show a close relationship, used in the Silindung dialect, Sibolga and Humbang, while in Toba dialect the word "kedan" and puan is used. In Samosir dialect this second word is considered rude, only used to the second person whose status is much lower than us.
